وقتی رویای قهرمانی به پایان رسید، این ناباوری و ناراحتی تمامی اعضای این تیم را دربرگرفت. آنها نتوانستند جام قهرمانی را با خود به خانه ببرند و تساوی 2-2 برابر ماینتس برای آنها مثل شکست بود، شکستی که در صورت بازیکنان به خوبی دیده می‌شد.
کل پس از پایان این بازی به خبرنگاران گفت:« بازی به هیچ وجه مطابق میل ما پیش نرفت. خیلی زود عقب افتادیم و نتوانستیم از ضربه پنالتی‌ای که به سود ما اعلام شد خوب استفاده کنیم. خیلی زود بازی 0-2 شد و پس از آن شرایط کاملا تغییر کرد. ماینتس فقط دفاع می‌کرد و به فکر ضدحمله بود. بازی خیلی دیر 2-2 شد.»او درباره اضطراب بازیکنان اظهار داشت:« مشخص بود که شرایط بسیار خاص است. شما نمی‌توانستید جو این ورزشگاه را باور کنید. با این حال، من احساس می‌کردم که تیم را به خوبی آماده کردیم و برنامه درستی برای بازی داشتیم.

کل همچنین با اشاره به تشویق بازیکنان و ادین ترزیچ پس از این بازی از سوی هواداران گفت:« این اقدامی تحسین برانگیز از سوی هواداران بود که سعی کردند به تیم روحیه بدهند. این چیزی است که این باشگاه را از سایرین متمایز می‌کند. هواداران احساساتی عمیق برای چنین لحظه دشواری داشتند. من فقط می‌توانم بگویم که ما دوباره رو به جلو پیش خواهیم رفت. ما دوباره حمله خواهیم کرد. بروسیا دورتموند هرگز زمین نمی‌خورد. الان به نظر بسیار دشوار می‌رسد اما ما بار دیگر از جا بلند خواهیم شد و برمی‌گردیم.»
